The Hot Chick

Although the weather channel had forecast heavy hail, snow, and blizzard conditions, the moon shone brightly down on the park – as it always does for moonlight meetings in these situations.

Well, actually, as everyone knows, the moon doesn’t actually shine, but merely reflects the light from the sun onto the earth, therefore appearing to emit light to the uneducated people below.

Nicholas knew all this. In fact, he had written several algebraic formulae to prove the fact, and had calculated the quantity of light that the moon had reflected in the last 6,000 years using only a spoon and a piece of string – while quoting the entire works of Plato backwards in the original ancient Greek.

Sally knew none of this. In fact, it was while she was looking up at ‘that big shiny earring in that big black twinkly stuff up there’ in amazement that she walked straight into Nicholas, who was busy looking down at his feet in a depressed manner.

They had an immediate connection.

His ear to her elbow connection to be precise.

“Sorry,” Nicholas muttered, rubbing his ear and going to walk past.
“Wait, how did you know my name?” Sally demanded, fear running through her like a 10,000 volt electric shock.
Nicholas paused. He knew that she was Sally Mustang because so did every other guy in school, but he also knew he hadn’t said her name.
“How did you know I knew your name?” he asked, fearful to find something that he couldn’t work out the answer to in under 0.03 seconds.
Sally furrowed her brow in confusion.
“Uh, isn’t my name Sorry? I know it starts with ‘S’.”
All this thinking was too much for her, and she shook it off, took in her surroundings, noticed that a guy was standing nearby, and started from scratch.
“Hi, I’m Sally,” she said in her best ditzy voice (the only voice she had), and giggling in a high-pitched voice flirtatiously, “What’s your name?”
Nicholas froze.
A girl had just asked his name.
This had never happened before in his life (except when Janie had asked it so she could add ‘smells like cheese’ on the end and put it on a flyer which she distributed to every letter box in the county), and he was unsure what to do.
After mathematically calculating all possible outcomes, and realizing that nothing could affect his life negatively any more than it already was, he shrugged and decided to answer.
By that time however, Sally had got sick of waiting and had already continued to wander home.
